Plan 62
Position:
Atmosphere side
Description:
An external system provides a suitable quench medium on the atmosphere side of the seal face. The quench medium is usually unpressurized or has a slight overpressure compared to the atmosphere. Common quench media are water, steam or nitrogen.
The circulation of the quench medium is carried out by the external system (e.g. by a pressure difference).
Common use:
- To eliminate oxygen on the atmosphere side of the seal face (e.g. prevent coking)
- For flushing out leakage or material deposits on the atmosphere side
- For heating the sealing components
Application example:
Sealing of molasses in pumps with single-acting mechanical seals to prevent crystallizing leakage at ambient air.
Sealing of butene in pumps with single-acting mechanical seals to prevent freezing humidity.
