Plan 53C
Position:
Between inner and outer seal (double seal)
Description:
A piston accumulator, in combination with a barrier fluid system, provides a pressurized barrier fluid for the inner and outer seal. The pressure of this fluid is at least 1.4 bar (0.14 MPa) above the pressure in the seal chamber.
The system is pressurized by the pressure of the medium to be sealed (reference pressure) in the piston accumulator, which causes an increase in pressure of the barrier fluid due to different effective areas. The medium to be sealed and the barrier fluid are separated from each other by appropriate piston seals.
The circulation of the barrier fluid is carried out by a pump device in the mechanical seal.
Common use:
- To eliminate leakage of the medium to be sealed to the atmosphere
- For dirty, solid containing or polymerizing media to be sealed
- In applications where sealing operation by the medium to be sealed itself is not possible
- At high pressures in the seal chamber (high pressure of the barrier fluid required)
- When pressures change in the seal chamber,
- To prevent dry running of the process-side (inner) seal
- For cooling the process-side (inner) mechanical seal
- For cooling the non-process-side (outer) mechanical seal
Application example:
Sealing of PTA in agitators with double-acting mechanical seals to eliminate leakage (medium to be sealed) to the atmosphere, for automatic adjustment of the barrier pressure, as well as for lubrication and cooling of the seal faces.
