Plan 52
Position:
Between inner and outer seal (double seal)
Description:
An external reservoir provides a suitable unpressurized buffer fluid for the outer seal. The pressure of this buffer fluid is below the pressure in the seal chamber and at a maximum of 2.8 bar (0.28 MPa).
The circulation of the buffer fluid is carried out by a pump device in the mechanical seal.
Common use:
- To minimize leakage of the medium to be sealed to the atmosphere
- For collection of product leakage
- To support heat dissipation on the process-side (inner) seal
- To prevent solidifying product leakage at the atmosphere
- In applications where the vapor pressure of the medium to be sealed is above the pressure of the buffer fluid (evaporation of product leakage into buffer liquid and discharge to the collection system)
Application example:
Sealing of hydrocarbons in pumps with double-acting mechanical seals to minimize leakage (medium to be sealed) to the atmosphere and to support heat dissipation.
